Can the popularity of charging piles keep pace with the development of new energy vehicles?
Can the popularity of charging piles keep pace with the development of new energy vehicles? The rapid development of new energy vehicles has put forward higher requirements for charging infrastructure. According to the latest data, the cumulative number of charging infrastructures across the country has reached 11.433 million units, indicating that the charging pile market is expanding rapidly and to a certain extent is able to keep pace with the development of new energy vehicles.
In terms of public charging piles, the increase is 603,000 units, which reflects that the growth rate of public charging piles has not been able to fully match the sales growth rate of new energy vehicles. There is also an imbalance in the layout of public charging piles, with charging piles piling up in urban core areas, while old neighbourhoods and townships are ‘hard to find a pile’.
Technical constraints are also one of the important factors restricting the popularity of charging piles. Existing charging pile power varies, fast charging station accounted for less than 20%, part of the equipment due to a lack of maintenance into a ‘zombie pile’, safety hazards often appear. These problems have a direct impact on the effective utilisation of charging piles and user experience.
Cost predicament should not be ignored. A single fast charging pile construction costs more than 100,000 yuan, high-voltage power expansion costs accounted for more than 60%, the operator’s profit cycle of up to 5-8 years. The high costs have deterred many potential investors and slowed the expansion of the charging pile network.
In the face of these challenges, governments and companies have taken a series of measures. Many places have introduced new policies to simplify the approval process, rural areas can get up to 50% installation subsidies, and the State Grid has launched a ‘charging pile to the countryside’ programme. In terms of technological innovation, the application of new technologies such as liquid-cooled supercharging stations and integrated optical storage and charging stations has significantly improved charging efficiency and reduced operating costs.
Can the popularity of charging piles keep up with the development of new energy vehicles? Although the popularisation speed of charging piles is gradually accelerating and adapting to the development needs of new energy vehicles to a certain extent, they are still facing the challenges of imbalance in layout, technological limitations and high costs. With more policy measures and technological advances, charging pile construction is expected to achieve more balanced and efficient development.
